Concession and rebate eligibility

You may be eligible for a concession or rebate on your bill if you’re the primary account holder on your energy account and you hold a valid concession card.

You can add your concession details to your account details in My Account – we step you through it.

Who may be eligiblePersons receiving treatment from a home dialysis machine, or their parents/guardians.

  • $1,200 (excl GST) / $1,320 (incl GST) per year
  • OR $3.29 (excl GST) / $3.62 (incl GST) per day

How to apply

To register for the Home Haemodialysis Rebate, you need to show:

  • You’re the registered owner or joint owner of the property.
  • The person receiving treatment, if that isn’t you, lives with you.

You also require a letter from a medical practitioner or professional confirming you are:

  • Receiving treatment from a home dialysis machine; or
  • The parent or guardian of a person receiving treatment from a home dialysis machine.

If you’re eligible for the Home Haemodialysis rebate, you’re also eligible for the Life Support Rebate.

Combined Utilities Concession
Who may be eligibleThis rebate only applies to electricity, gas and water supplied to your primary residence.
Rebate value
  • $800 (excl GST) / $880 (incl GST) per year, from 2020–2021
  • OR $1.02c (excl GST) / $1.12c (incl GST) per day from 1 November to 31 May (Summer)
  • AND $3.82 (excl GST) / $4.20 (incl GST) per day from 1 June to 31 October (Winter)

NSW

On supply Embedded Network Customers – You may be eligible for NSW Government Energy or Life Support rebates. To find out more, please visit the NSW Government Energy Saver website.

To check if that’s you, look for your NMI number on the second page of your bill – if it starts with “EN” you may be in an Embedded Network. You can also confirm this at the NSW Government Service website.

If you receive the Low Income Household Rebate, the Family Energy Rebate is capped at $20 (excl GST) / $22 (incl GST).

EAPA vouchers are distributed to electricity and gas customers by a range of community welfare organisations (CWO).

Senior Energy Rebate
Who may be eligibleIndependent retirees who hold a valid concession card and are applying for their primary house of residence. You must also be the primary account holder named on your electricity bill.
Rebate value
The Seniors Energy Rebate is $200 per household, per financial year.

If your application is a success, the rebate will be paid directly into your chosen bank or Credit Union account.

QLD
Electricity Asset Ownership Dividend
Who may be eligibleThe Asset Ownership Dividend will go to all residential Queensland customers where electricity is charged separately, and for example, not included as part of the rent.

Customers who receive an electricity bill from their landlord or body corporate are eligible but will need to apply.  
Rebate value

Households receiving the Queensland Government’s Electricity Asset Ownership Dividend will see another one-off payment towards their upcoming energy bill between September and November, 2021.

  •   $50 applied to your upcoming electricity bill

How to applyFor households that receive an electricity bill directly, this rebate will be automatically applied to your upcoming bill, you do not need to apply or get in touch with us.

Customers who receive an electricity bill from their landlord or body corporate will need to fill out an application (form 523) for the Asset Ownership Dividend, 2021.

Who may be eligibleThe Home Emergency Assistance Scheme helps low-income households pay their current electricity or natural gas bill when they face a short-term financial crisis or an unforeseen emergency.

Who may be eligible
  • A gas account holder whose winter gas costs are above $1,612 and holds one of the eligible cards
  • An electricity account holder whose annual electricity costs are above $2,947 and holds one of the eligible cards

If you receive the Life support concession or the Medical cooling concession you will be automatically eligible to receive the Excess gas concession after submitting a completed application form.

  • 17.5 per cent of your winter gas usage and service costs above $1,612 (incl GST)
  • 17.5 per cent of electricity usage and service costs above $2,947 (incl GST)

This concession is calculated after retailer discounts and solar credits have been deducted.

How to applyBoth the Annual Electricity Concession and Winter Gas Concession have a yearly rebate cap. Once you have reached the rebate limit for either of these concessions, we will check to see if you need to apply for the Excess Energy Concession and send you an application form.

This is simply an extension to your existing Winter Gas Concession or Annual Electricity Concession.

Non-Mains Energy Concession
Who may be eligible

Valid concession cardholders who:

  • Rely on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), firewood (special conditions apply) or heating oil for domestic heating, cooking or hot water, or
  • Access non-mains electricity via an embedded network, or
  • Rely on a generator
Rebate amount

The amount of this rebate depends on the annual cost of each non-mains energy source.

All non-mains energy costs are covered from 1 January to 31 December each year.

This rebate is paid by the Department of Human Services.

Service to Property Charge Concession
Who may be eligible

Valid concession cardholders who don’t use a lot of electricity. If your supply charge is more than your usage charges, you could get a rebate on your electricity bill.

Rebate value

If the electricity use on a bill is lower than the service charge, the service charge is reduced to the cost of the electricity used.

The concession is based on your usage cost before any solar credits are deducted.

Life Support Concession
Who may be eligible

Valid concession card holders using an electrically-operated life support machine.

Rebate value

The Life Support Concession can give you a rebate on your electricity bills, equal to the cost of 1,880 kWh of electricity per year. The rebate is calculated using the general domestic tariff of your retailer.

This rebate is paid quarterly.

Utility Relief Grant Scheme (URGS)
Who may be eligible

The Utility Relief Grant Scheme (URGS) helps low-income households who can’t pay their utility account.

You’ll be considered eligible if you’re:

  • A single income household earning $2,000 or less a fortnight
  • A dual income household earning $3,038 or less a fortnight

And have also experienced one or more of the following:

  • A recent drop in income or job loss
  • You, or someone in your household has experienced family violence
  • Unexpected high costs for essential items
  • Your rent or mortgage costs are more than 30% of your total household income.
Rebate value

Up to $650 toward your electricity account and up to $650 toward your natural gas account, once in a 2 year period, if you have both energy types. If you have only electricity you can get the full $1,300 toward this.

How to apply

Your URGS application must be submitted with a personalised number. Reach out to one of our Live Chat agents or call us on 13 24 61. Our team can help answer any questions about the Utility Relief Grant Scheme (URGS) and assist you with filling out your application. 

We’ll supply you with an application form and your own form number, either by:

  • Sending you a direct link (via sms or email) to fill out the form online or;
  • Organising an application to be sent by post. Please note this is not preferred by most customers as it takes some time for the form to arrive. 

Prior to sending the form to you, we’ll fill out what information we havcan, You’ll then need to complete the rest of the form with your own information. Lodge the application with copies of the required documentation via:

Important info to help you fill out your URGS application

1. Your details

Make sure you provide your name, address and contact phone number. You’ll also need to indicate what utility services you’re applying for help with.

2. The due date

You must return your completed form by the due date. You’ll find this listed on your application form. Remember, the quicker you get your form in, the quicker you could receive financial assistance. 

3. Household information

You’ll need to include some of your household information. Listing any concession details (if applicable) and your household income.

4. Reason for your application

This is a mandatory section. You need to meet at least one of the four criteria listed in the application form (or see above in “Who may be eligible”). So, please make sure you complete the options that apply to you and include as much information as you can.

5. Documentation

The Hardship Utility Relief Grant Scheme (HUGS) assists WA utility customers who are in financial hardship and are unable to pay their utility account.
