Most Origin customers across ACT paid more for their electricity from 1 July 2021.

Our natural gas prices also rose for most customers on 1 July 2021.

On 1 July ACT embedded electricity prices also changed for most customers, to align with the electricity prices for our other residential and small business customers.

What are the price changes?

Electricity (up)

We increased our ACT electricity prices on 1 July 2021 for most Origin residential and small business customers (except customers on Rate Freeze, Low Rate plans and Fixed Rate products such as Origin Go, Business Go, Advantage ePlus).

This increase in your electricity charges is primarily due to an increase in network charges.

Natural gas (up)

This year ACT natural gas prices have increased – prices rose on 1 July 2021 for most customers (except customers on Rate Freeze, Low Rate plans and Fixed Rate products such as Origin Go, Business Go, Advantage ePlus).

This increase in your natural gas charges is primarily due to an increase in what it costs us to purchase and supply this gas to you.

How was I notified of the change?

Electricity

If you’re an electricity customer and your electricity prices have changed, you should have received a letter or email from us in June detailing the changes.

You’ll also see the new prices on your electricity bills after 1 July 2021 (except customers on Rate Freeze, Low Rate plans and Fixed Rate products such as Origin Go, Business Go, Advantage ePlus).

On 16 June 2021 Origin published a notice in ACT’s major metropolitan newspaper advising of the 1 July electricity price change.

Natural gas

If you’re a natural gas customer and your natural gas prices have changed, you should have received a letter or email from us in June detailing the changes.

You’ll also see the new prices on your natural gas bills after 1 July 2021 (except customers on Rate Freeze, Low Rate plans and Fixed Rate products such as Origin Go, Business Go, Advantage ePlus).

Have GreenPower and Green Gas prices changed?

No. There was no change to GreenPower electricity charges or Green Gas charges on 1 July 2021.

I’ve got solar. Have feed-in tariff rates changed?

No. There was no change to the ACT standard retailer feed-in tariff rate (GST inclusive, if any) on 1 July 2021. 

I’ve got gas hot water with unmetered appliance services. Have prices changed?

Yes, there were some changes to gas hot water and unmetered appliances charges for most customers in ACT on 1 July 2021. If this change affected you, you would have received a letter or email from us in June, prior to the effective date of the change.   

I’m on an embedded electricity tariff. Are my prices changing?

Yes. Prices changed for ACT embedded electricity network customers on 1 July 2021. If affected, you would have received a letter or email from us in June about this change, which included your current and new prices.

When do prices usually change?

We change our electricity and natural gas prices occasionally and will let you know when we do. Prices include GST.

Is there any relief for customers during COVID-19?

Yes. We’re continuing to provide additional support to customers who’ve been financially impacted by COVID-19. We encourage any customer who is having trouble paying their bills as a result of the impacts of COVID-19 to contact us so we can help.
