We can help you understand your energy prices better, so you can compare energy plans and choose the one that best meets your needs.
Daily supply charge, also known as a fixed charge, is the price that you pay to an energy provider for supplying electricity and gas to your address. You pay the daily supply charge even when you don’t use any electricity or gas at that address.
Usage charge, also known as variable charge, is the price that you pay on top of the daily supply charge for the electricity and gas that you use.
A tariff explains how you get charged for your energy. Like most retailers, we offer two different kinds of tariffs – single rate and time of use.
A single rate tariff, also known as a flat rate, doesn’t have any peak and off-peak periods. So, you pay the same rate always regardless of the time of the day you use energy.
A time-of-use tariff means that you pay different rates during different times of the day – peak when energy costs the most, off-peak when it’s the cheapest and shoulder when it’s a bit less than peak.
In some instances, additional charges may apply to you. These can include late payment fees, credit card payment fees and other charges.
An Energy Fact Sheet is a comprehensive document that explains the discounts (pay on time, direct debit, etc.), rates, benefit period and any additional terms and conditions that apply to your electricity and gas contract. If you live in VIC or WA, you can tell us your address above and download the Energy Fact Sheet for each of our plans.
A Basic Plan Information Document is an equivalent of the Energy Fact Sheet that contains key information relating to your energy plan. If you live in ACT, NSW, SA or QLD, you can tell us your address above to see the Basic Plan Information Document link for each of our plans. This link will take you to the Australian Government’s Energy Made Easy site, where you can download this document for the plan you’ve chosen.
An exit fee is a cancellation fee that may apply to you if you end your energy plan before the benefit period or your energy contract expires. Exit fees generally apply to lock-in contracts. At Origin, all our residential and business plans come without any exit fees or lock-in contracts. This means that you can change your plan with us at any time without worrying about paying any exit fee.
