When comparing energy plans, it’s important to understand what a comparison percentage means so you can make an informed choice.
When we advertise electricity plans, we’re required by law to compare the plan to a government reference price. This is a benchmark price known in ACT, NSW, SA, and parts of QLD as the reference price. In Victoria, it’s the Victorian Default Offer (VDO) reference price.
The idea is that all energy providers use the same benchmark prices, so you can easily compare one plan against another when you’re shopping around.
In this way, the comparison percentages are meant to help you compare offers. They aren’t a discount off your energy bill. To compare rates, search using your address and open the electricity rates section.
For more about how energy pricing and discounts work, head to our Pricing explained page.
Explore and compare electricity rates and gas rates to find the plan rates that best suit your needs. Understanding your energy costs is simple:
These rates will vary based on the energy plan you choose, your meter type, and your distributor. Let us help you compare energy rates by looking up the specific rates for your address.
If you’re looking for great deals on natural gas and electricity, online is a great place to go. We sometimes have online-only offers, which you can’t get through our sales team over the phone.
Different online offers come and go, so make sure you’re checking in regularly to see what electricity and natural gas deals are available.
When it comes to choosing the right electricity or natural gas plan, you need to understand what the differences are from one plan to the next.
We offer 4 main energy plans to choose from.
Origin Go Variable
Origin Go Variable can help you budget right. Offering flexible ways to pay and the freedom to add GreenPower or switch to another plan at any time, it’s an easy choice.
Origin Everyday Rewards Variable

Origin Basic (Origin Supply in WA)
Origin Basic is our no-frills plan. It doesn’t have to be renewed. So if you like the idea of a plan you can set and forget, Origin Basic could be for you.
In some states and territories, Origin Basic prices are the same as government benchmark electricity prices. You can find out more about government benchmark rates at our Pricing explained page.
Origin Go Solar Variable
The plan to take up when you’re looking for a great rate electricity plan and you want solar with that! Enjoy a higher than standard variable feed-in tariff (FIT) (until your daily export limit is reached), variable rates and flexible ways to pay. It’s a 12 month plan and we give you lots of notice when it’s time to renew.
Origin Solar Boost
Tailored specifically to homes with solar panels and those who want to export their solar power. You get a higher feed-in tariff (FIT) for the energy your solar system exports back to the grid (until your daily export limit is reached). You can check if you could benefit from a higher FIT at our feed-in tariff page.
Here at Origin, we have no lock-in contracts on any of our energy plans. You can exit any time before your energy plan ends without paying any exit fees. You can always compare energy plans to see if there’s a better option to suit you.
Plus, we’ll always let you know if and when your electricity and natural gas plan’s about to end, so you have enough time to make sure you get on another great energy plan before your current one ends.
The estimated prices you see with each electricity or natural gas plan don’t include any concessions or rebates that may apply to you. You can add these in yourself, either when you sign up or in My Account later. See energy concessions you could be eligible for.
