New to Origin
Welcome! It’s great to have you join us. We want to make your house move hassle free – in a few easy steps.
1. Pick your plan by using our handy Help Me Choose tool or heading over to Compare Plans.
2. Need Origin internet at your new place? We can sort that out for you too. Plus, we’ll give you $10/month discount if you bundle with your energy plan.
3. Give us your address and the date you’re moving.
4. Track your move with our SMS alerts, while we getting you set up. Register with MyAccount to set yourself up for managing your energy later.

Existing Origin customer
1. Log in to My Account or the Origin app to kick things off for your move. Give us your new address and the date you’d like to move. The whole process should only take around 5 minutes.
2. Want Origin internet at your new place? Great news! We can hook up Origin internet at your new place. You can choose to bundle your energy with an internet plan – and we’ll give you a $10 monthly discount on your internet plan.

4. If you need your previous energy disconnected, fill out a disconnection form and we’ll sort it out. Just so you know, disconnections don’t automatically happen when you move house.
How much notice is required to move house?
Each distributor does things a little differently. You can arrange your move as far in advance as you like, just pick the day before you’re due to move in as the connection date.
It normally takes one business day to get your electricity connected*, if you let us know before 1pm the day before (only applies on weekdays).
This can take up to three business days.
This can be connected the next day for eligible nbn customers, if you let us know by 1pm*.
If you’re in a hurry, let us know online on a weekday, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) before 1 pm*, and we can get your electricity connected the next business day.
That means that if you arrange your move on a Tuesday before 1 pm, your new house could be connected on the Wednesday. If you arrange your move on a Friday afternoon after 1 pm, your house will be connected on the next Tuesday.
Outside of these times, or for same-day connections, call us on 13 MOVE (13 66 83).
What if I need my energy connected urgently?
We’ve got you covered if you need your energy powered on urgently. Just let us know online on a weekday, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) before 1 pm *, and we can get your electricity connected the next business day.* Natural gas connections can take up to three business days.
Are there any fees?
There are fees associated with moving house. These are charged by the distributor when you move into a new house or disconnect your old address. These charges will appear on your energy bill.
Connection fee: between $12 and $86. This will appear /be on your first bill from Origin at your new address.
Disconnection fee: appears on the final bill at your old address. For Origin customers, disconnection fees range between $8 and $66.
When you book a move online, we’ll let you know the exact fees. Or, you can look up the moving fees for your state.
How do I disconnect my energy at a previous address?
When you’re moving house, don’t forget this important step.
Get in contact with your old energy provider
Let them know that you’re moving and you’d like to disconnect your old home. At the same time, you can ask them for your final energy bill. If you’re already an Origin customer, you can disconnect your house in My Account or the Origin app.
When should I disconnect my current address?
Choose the disconnect date that suits you. Some meters can be disconnected from 7am on the day you choose, so if you need power on your moving day, it might be best to disconnect the day after.
Allow yourself enough time to get everything organised for your move before you get your energy disconnected. For example, if you’re getting your carpet cleaned prior to moving, you’ll need electricity. It’s best to make yourself a checklist with dates, so you can estimate when you’ll need your energy disconnected.
How much notice do I need to give to disconnect an address?
Your distributor will come out to do a final meter read, which requires 3-4 business days’ notice.
I’m moving, but I don’t want to disconnect my old house
Moving to a new property doesn’t automatically disconnect your current address. You can keep the address active for as long as you like, and close it in My Account when the timing suits you. If you’re leaving the house but want to set up the account in someone else’s name (like a housemate), get the new account holder to sign up at our Compare plans page or give us a call on 13 MOVE (13 66 83)
Can I get Origin internet connected at my new address?
You sure can! We offer no-lock in, unlimited nbn and fibre plans. To get Origin internet connected at your new place, head over to our internet page, enter your address details and we’ll show you plans that are available.

As a renter or renovator, how do I get my energy connected?
The good news is that we offer no lock-in contracts, so you can take up a plan to keep the energy going for as long as you need it. This is handy for renters or renovators. Of course, you can move your energy to your new address if we supply the area you’re moving to – it’s all about a hassle-free experience.
What is the Move Promise?
When you’re moving house, we want your energy to be up and running when you need it to be. That’s why, with our Moves Promise*, we guarantee your energy to be switched on, when you book your move online before 1 pm on a weekday, to get the power on next business day. Or, you can claim up to $400 (incl GST) per day in credit until your energy is connected.
If you need internet at your new place, we offer Next Day nbn connections. Eligible customers can sign up before before 1pm Monday-Friday (excluding public holidays) for next day connection. Or you can claim up to $100 (inc GST) credit for every day you’re not connected*.

Do I need to be there for my new address to get connected?
That depends on where you live and whether or not the property has been disconnected. Don’t worry though, once you’ve booked your move we’ll keep in touch every step of the way and let you know what you need to do. Just keep an eye on your emails and we’ll let you know the process.
Live in Queensland? Learn about Visual Safety Inspections (VSI)
If you’re in Queensland and your new home doesn’t currently have power, a Visual Safety Inspection (VSI) is required by law. When you book your move, you’ll be asked to choose a 5 hour window for when this inspection can take place.
