We want to take some stress out of your move with our Move Promise – whether it’s booking your move online in minutes, getting SMS updates or getting your power on next business day when you book online before 1 pm Monday to Friday. We’re with you every step of the way. Origin’s Move Promise also gives you the reassurance of a guarantee that gives you $400 (incl GST) credit per day for related expenses, in the event we can’t power your home the next business day.*

We can get you into your new home in 3 easy steps

  1. To get your power on

    Give us your new address and we can book your connection now in under 5 minutes. You pick the connection date, we do the rest. 

    If you’re already an Origin customer, head to My Account or the Origin app and book in your move from there. It's easy and only takes a few minutes.
  2. While we set up your new address

    Look out for an email from us confirming your move, then head to My Account and register or log in. You can track the status of your connection there. We’ll also keep you updated with SMS or email to let you know where everything’s at during the moving process.
  3. Disconnecting your old house

    If you're changing energy companies, contact your old energy provider to disconnect your old home and get your final bill.

    If we supplied the energy at your old house, you can disconnect in My Account or the app. If you’re moving out, but a housemate is staying in the house, make sure you chat to us before you disconnect.

Fees are charged by the distributor when you move house or disconnect your old address. You'll see these charges on your energy bill.

Connection fee: between $12 and $86. This will on your first bill from Origin at your new address.

Disconnection fee: appears on the final bill at your old address. For Origin customers, disconnection fees range between $8 and $66.

When you book a move online, we’ll let you know the exact fees. Or, you can look up the moving fees for your state.

For a next-business-day electricity connections, let us know online before 1 pm, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. * Natural gas connections can take up to three business days.

Outside of these times, or for same-day connections, call us on 13 MOVE (13 66 83). An energy expert can help, and will let you know if any extra fees apply. See moving fees to find out more. 

That depends on where you live and whether or not the property has been disconnected. Don't worry though, once you've booked your move we'll keep in touch every step of the way and let you know what you need to do. Just keep an eye on your emails and we'll let you know the process.

If you're in Queensland and your new home doesn't currently have power, a Visual Safety Inspection (VSI) is required by law. When you book your move, you'll be asked to choose a 5 hour window for when this inspection can take place. 

Electricity can be connected the next business day if you let us know online before 1pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) *. Natural gas connections can take up to three business days, though. So make sure you book with plenty of time if you want them connected together.

Each distributor does things a little differently. You can arrange your move as far in advance as you like, just pick the day before you're due to move in as the connection date.

If you're in a hurry, let us know online Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) before 1 pm *, and we can get your electricity connected the next business day.

That means that if you arrange your move on a Tuesday before 1 pm, your new house could be connected on the Wednesday. If you arrange your move on a Friday afternoon after 1 pm, your house will be connected on the next Tuesday.

Outside of these times, or for same-day connections, call us on 13 MOVE (13 66 83). 

Contact your old energy provider to disconnect your old home and get your final bill. If you're already an Origin customer, you can disconnect your house in My Account or the app.

When should I disconnect my current address?

Choose the disconnect date that suits you. Some meters can be disconnected from 7am on the day you choose, so if you need power on your moving day, it might be best to disconnect the day after.

I'm moving, but I don't want to disconnect my old house

Moving to a new property doesn't automatically disconnect your current address. You can keep the address active for as long as you like, and close it in My Account when the timing suits you. If you're leaving the house but want to set up the account in someone else's name (like a housemate), get the new account holder to sign up at our compare page or give us a call on 13 MOVE (13 66 83) .

How much notice do I need to give to disconnect an address?

Your distributor will come out to do a final meter read, which requires 3-4 business days notice.

Helpful info for your move

Our Move Promise is our guarantee when you move with us. Book your move online before 1 pm Monday to Friday and we’ll have the power on at your place the next business day. You’ll also have the reassurance of a guarantee that gives you $400 (incl GST) credit per day for related expenses, in the event we can’t power your home the next business day.*

Your new place will be connected anytime between 7 am and 7 pm on the date you choose - so we always recommend getting connected the day before you move in.

For example, if you’re moving in on the 6th, select the 5th as your connection date

Urgent connections

For a next-business-day electricity connection, let us know online before 1 pm, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. Natural gas connections can take up to three business days.

Plans and rates are based on your property address - therefore you'll be setting up a new plan when you move. Enter your new address above and click Compare plans to see available plans.
