How to read your broadband bill

Keen to understand what all the elements on your Origin Broadband bill are telling you? Our page-by-page explainer breaks down each section.

We're updating the look of our broadband bill to make it easier to understand. While we roll it out to everyone, you may get one of two bill types.

Choose your bill depending on when your Origin Broadband was connected:


Broadband bill (connected before 25 November 2020)

This is what the information in each section of your broadband bill means:

1. Your supply address
The address of the property we’re billing you for broadband and voice services.

2. Overall bill summary
The high level details of your account – the billing period, your account number, the invoice number, the total amount due and the date the bill is due.

a. Billing period – the period of time covered by your bill (e.g. 1st of July 2018 to 31st of July 2018)

b. Account Number – your Origin Broadband account number

c. Invoice Number – the unique invoice number for the billing period listed

d. Total Due – the total amount due for the billing period listed

e. Due Date – the day you need to pay your bill

3. Bill summary

a. Prior Balance/Amount Paid – the balance of the previous billing periods and any payments made during that month.

b. New Charges - summary of the monthly charges for your services as well as ‘Other Charges & Credits’ excluding GST (explained in point 7), the total GST amount and the Total Due.

The “Total Due” amount may differ when:

  • Your account is in credit.
  • Your account is overdue or you have an outstanding amount due.
     

4. Direct debit note

This will appear on your invoice if you have Direct Debit setup on your account.

5. Payment options

If you don’t have Direct Debit set up, you can use one of the payment methods listed on your bill instead. Any payment fees these options might have are listed here too.

6. Broadband, landline and mobile services

A summary of the data used, your monthly plan charges and any other features you may have.

We’ll also list any call charges if you have an Origin Home Phone - including line rental and other features. All of them ex GST.

7. Other charges and credit

A summary of charges or credits that aren’t billed monthly - like month-in- advance charges, once-off charges (including setup fees or modem delivery fees), or late payment, credit payment or paper bill fees. All of these ex GST too.

9. Payment/bill history

  • Your Payments History – a list of the previous 5 payments made on your account.
  • Your Bill History – a list of the previous 5 invoices issued.

10. Service level summary

A summary of your Origin Broadband services and charges.

11. Your Origin broadband plan

a. Active from – the date your service went live and billing started.

b. Plan and Usage Charges – details of your Origin Broadband plan, monthly costs and any other charges - like month in advance charges.

12. Your Origin home phone

If you have an Origin Home Phone, this is where you’ll find a summary of the local, national, mobile, 13/1300 and international calls made - along with any other features to do with that service.

Broadband bill (connected after 25 November 2020)

This is what the information in each section of your broadband bill means:

1. Billing period
The period of time covered by this bill (e.g. 1 May — 31 May 20) and pro rata (if it applies). For broadband, billing periods are monthly.

2. Your account details
Your account number, the tax invoice number and the date this bill was issued.

3. Due date
Is the day by which you need to pay your bill.

4. Amount due
The amount due is how much you need to pay (incl GST). 

5. Account summary

  • Previous activity is the balance of the previous billing period and any payments you’ve made during that month.
  • Your new charges shows a summary of the monthly charges for your services as well as ‘Other Charges & Credits’ and the Total Due. All costs incl GST.
  • Total amount due is the total incl net GST. The amount may differ when:
    • Your account is in credit
    • Your account is overdue 
    • You have an outstanding amount due

6. How to pay

Shows the different ways you can pay your broadband bill including direct debit, credit card, BPAY and via mail.

7. Your service details

  • Service address is the address of the property we’re billing you for – the address where your broadband is connected.
  • Plan is the name of your broadband plan or home phone plan.
  • Plan charges and call charges is a summary of your monthly plan charges and any credits or discounts you have. Your call charges are broken down if you have an Origin Home Phone. 

8. Your billing history

Shows the last 4 invoices you've been issued.

9. Once-off charges and credits

A summary of charges or credits that aren’t billed monthly, including setup fees, modem delivery fees, late payment fees, credit card payment or paper bill fees. All of these incl GST.

10. Payments received

An account of any payments you’ve made in your billing period.

11. Itemised calls
If you have an Origin Home Phone, this is where you’ll find a summary of your local, national, mobile, 13/1300 and international calls made — along with any other features to do with your service.
