We’ve reduced our fee for payments made by Visa and MasterCard. From 1 November 2016, if you pay by Visa or MasterCard you may incur a 0.37% (incl. GST) processing fee (previously 0.6%).

If you pay by card, this fee change may affect you, depending on things like the energy plan you have (Standing/Regulated contract or market contract), the fuel, and the state/territory you live in.

From 1 November 2016, we’ve reduced our card payment fee from 0.6% to 0.37% for payments made by Visa and MasterCards.

Recently new regulations have been introduced which regulate the amount of card payment surcharges by merchants when charging customers for the use of a credit or debit card.  These surcharges are now directly linked to how much it costs businesses to run this payment method. Our customers will be notified of the fee change on their next bill from 1 November. This message may include any customer groups excluded from the charge.

Origin also published a public notice on Monday 17 October in QLD, SA and the ACT to advise Standing/Regulated customers of the change, as part of the notification requirements. 

We cannot comment on whether other retailers are applying the fee change. We’ve set our fee taking into account the regulations and this fee is cost reflective.
