ACT electricity and natural gas prices rose on 8 July 2019

On 8 July 2019 our electricity and natural gas charges went up for Australian Capital Territory residential and small business customers (excludes customers on Predictable Plan, Rate Freeze and Low Rate plans).

We changed our ACT electricity and natural gas prices on 8 July 2019 for Origin residential and small business customers with supply addresses in the Australian Capital Territory.

Electricity prices rose by 4.4% for residential customers and 4.0% for small business customers. 

Natural gas prices rose 2.6% for residential customers and 3.4% for small business customers.

You’ll see the price change on your electricity and natural gas bills after 8 July 2019 (except customers on Predictable Plan, Rate Freeze and Low Rate plans).

Electricity

There are a number of reasons why our prices have changed, including higher network charges to deliver the electricity to your home or business. 

Natural gas

The wholesale price for natural gas has increased. In addition, the network charges to deliver the gas through the pipeline to your home or business are also higher this year. 

If you’re an electricity or natural gas customer, you should have received an email or letter about the price change prior to 8 July.  So you can see what’s changed, we included in the letter what you currently pay compared to your new rates.

You’ll also receive a message about the price change on your first bill after 8 July (excludes customers on Predictable Plan, Rate Freeze and Low Rate plans).

Origin has also published a notice in the ACT’s metropolitan newspaper before the change.

We change our electricity and natural gas prices occasionally and will let you know when we do.

On 1 July 2019 our GreenPower electricity charges for 10%, 20%, 25%, 50% and 100% went down.

GreenPower costs are reducing due to an increase in renewable energy becoming available as we approach the 2020 target for renewable energy.
