The 5 winners of our Solar for Schools 2018 competition are:

Caddies Creek Public School, NSW

Caddies Creek detailed how it generates good energy for the environment by introducing co-mingled soft plastic and paper recycling and participating in the Terracycle Waste program.

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, SA

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart's entry featured the good energy of the school's community work and environmental care. The school embraces and celebrates more than 40 diverse cultures and it encourages inclusion and warmth among the school community.

Wembley Primary School, WA

Wembley Primary showcased its sustainable practices, which include fuel-free Fridays, Waterwise and Cycle Safe programs and having a Sustainability Committee of teachers and parents. Great passion on display by students, parents and staff!

Castlemaine Secondary College, VIC

Castlemaine Secondary's entry shone a spotlight on their Sustainability Group, which has helped create community gardens and outdoor education spaces, and conducts audits of the school's waste, energy, water and biodiversity, using the findings to implement sustainable practices and targets.

Grand Avenue State School, QLD

Grand Avenue focused their entry on healthy living and physical fitness, and showcased the commitment it provides to educating students about waste management and its affect on the planet. Their new solar system will help build on the exisiting curriculum.

Tell us in 100 words or less how your school spreads good energy and how your school would benefit from the prize. You also have the option to include a video or photo that shows the good energy practices of your school with your entry.

Each entry will be individually judged based on the literary and creative merit of the answer provided to the Promotional Question and photo or video (including how well they demonstrate good energy within the Eligible School and how well they demonstrate that the Eligible School will benefit from the prize).

Entry is only open to Australian residents who are one (1) of the following:

  • A parent guardian of  student who attends an Eligible School, as defined below;
  • A student who attends an Eligible School; or
  • A teacher or administrative staff member who works at an Eligible School

Entrants under 18 years old must have parental/guardian approval to enter. Entrants must have consent of the school before they nominate a school.

Is my school Eligible?

An eligible school is a public or private primary or high school in NSW, VIC, QLD, SA or WA that is registered with the Department of Education and Training and meets the following criteria:

  • Located within a 150km of Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane CBD; and
  • If selected as a winner, passes a structural certification for prize installation (see full terms and conditions for further details).

 

Five 20kW solar systems will be awarded to 5 different winners, one each in VIC, NSW, SA, QLD and WA. The schools considered eligible within those states are public or private primary or high schools that are located within a 150km radius of Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane CBD and if selected as a winner, passes a structural certification for prize installation, as per clause 17.

It is condition of entry that entrants agree that their entries may be published on our website , and possibly be used in social media and public relations activity. Images and video content provided may also be used in marketing activity.

Please note, only one entry per person will be accepted. Multiple entries from one school can be accepted.

To enter, enter your name (first and last), email address, school, state and phone number. Tell us in 100 words or less how your school spreads good energy and how your school would benefit from going solar. It is optional to upload photos and videos, but this isn't mandatory. The competition commences on 23 April 2018 and ends at 11:59 PM AEST on 29 June 2018.

Entries will be judged on 2 July 2018. If you are a winner, both you and your school will be notified by telephone and via email.
