About embedded services

We work with building owners and body corporates to support you and your building.

electricity

Embedded electricity

We supply electricity to embedded networks in bulk. Usually, they’re apartment blocks, retirement villages or caravan parks. The main electricity meter then feeds electricity through to the individual meters at each address.

Like most energy plans, you’ll pay a daily supply charge and then pay for the energy you use per kWh. You have your own meter, so you’ll only be charged for the energy you’ve used.

Embedded hot water

We charge you to heat the water used in your building. Generally, there’s a big hot water tank somewhere in the building that supplies all the apartments or residences. We only supply the service of heating the water, not the water itself.

Depending on the hot water setup at your building, you’ll be charged either

  • by the litre of hot water heated, which we measure from your individual meter, or
  • a minimum charge that’s not directly related to your usage

We’ll be able to tell you exactly what your charges will be when you search for your address.

You’ll also pay a daily supply charge that’s the same every day, to cover other things like the cost of supplying, maintaining and reading the meter.

Gas cooktop

Some buildings also have natural gas cooktops. These are unmetered, which means you’re charged a flat daily rate no matter how much you use the cooktop.

Cooktop charges are included on your hot water bill. You’ll see the daily charge listed on it’s own line, alongside any other unmetered appliances that you have.

Heating

Gas heating

Some buildings also have natural gas heaters. These are unmetered, which means you’re charged a flat daily rate no matter how much you turn the heater on.

Gas heater charges are either on their own bill or included with your hot water bill. You’ll see the daily charge listed on its own line, alongside any other unmetered appliances you may have.

Central air

Some apartments have a centralised air system that acts as the climate control for the property. Depending on the system, they can cool, or heat, or both.

These appliances are unmetered, so you’re charged a flat daily rate no matter how much you use it. This is charged either on its own bill or included with your hot water bill. You’ll see the daily charge listed on its own line, alongside any other unmetered appliances you may have.

About your prices

Like most energy plans, embedded services charges are made up of a mixture of usage charges and set daily supply costs. The rates are variable, so they can change. We’ll always let you know if your rates change.

Usage rates – these are what you pay for the actual electricity or hot water that you consume. We charge electricity per kWh (kilowatt hour) and hot water per litre.

Supply rates – this is a daily cost that’s the same every day. The exact cost depends where you live and who your electricity distributor is (for embedded electricity accounts).

Unmetered appliance charges – embedded services like gas cooktops, gas heaters and centralised air conditioning/heating are unmetered. That means we can’t measure how much you’ve used, so we just charge you a daily rate that’s the same every day.

When you search your address on the next step, we’ll look up your building to find the prices.

You can always give us a call if you want more information about pricing.

About your agreement with us

You’ll have an ongoing agreement with us that you don’t have to renew. That means we’ll continue to supply the service to your property until you tell us that you’re moving out, or someone else tells us they’re moving in.
