In November 2015 Origin became the world’s first energy company to adopt all seven climate change commitments, as laid out by the We Mean Business coalition.
We Mean Business is a global initiative which calls on corporate organisations to make a commitment to reducing their carbon emissions. The initiative highlights seven action points which companies can adopt all, or some of, to show their dedication in reducing emissions and working towards a low carbon future.
Origin is the first energy company to publicly commit to all seven of the initiatives, showing its commitment to lowering carbon emissions and working towards a future which highlights climate change as an issue.
Origin’s Executive General Manager Corporate Affairs, Phil Craig, told ABC’s The World Today program about the company’s commitment to making a difference.
“We’ve committed to all seven of the We Mean Business commitments,” says Craig.
“What that means is that we will be transparently reporting climate change information; we will be working in the policy environment; we will be setting a science-based emissions reduction measure to track where we’re at, and what we need to do between now and 2050 to respond to the challenge that faces all of us.”
Australia will reduce emissions by 26-28 per cent on 2005 levels by 2050.
