Monday Motivation – You would never have guessed this car was electric

If you thought opting for an all-electric car meant forgoing speed and swagger – think again.

Written by Jordaine Chattaway

The world’s fastest electric car just managed to break its own speed record for an electric vehicle.

The NIO EP9 broke the Nurburgring Nordschleife Lap Record which was previously held by … you guessed it – the NIO EP9.

The lap time of  6m 45.900s (six minutes, 45.900 seconds) is 19.22 seconds faster than its previous lap time of 7m 05.12s which it achieved in October last year.

The vehicle, made by global start-up NIO, has a top speed of 313kph and can accelerate from 0-200kph in just 7.1 seconds – delivering one MegaWatt of peak power.

But – in case you’re thinking of making the switch (pun intended), you will need a handy 1.48 million USD (that’s 1.98 million AUD).

Oh well, it was a nice, albeit fast, dream.

Despite the NIO EP9 probably losing its spot on the Christmas list thanks to the hefty pricetag, it’s exciting to see the options are expanding for consumers with speed, aesthetics and practicality improving in the model’s every release.

Now, we’re not going to claim that our electric vehicle can reach these speeds … or looks this amazing, but, in case you’re still reading this you can check out our wheels here.

Happy charging!
