At Origin we are providing good energy in more ways than one. It’s our people that are working hard to support our customer and communities across Australia every day.
Mary joined Origin 16 years ago as a Graduate Engineer. Her background in engineering, coupled with an inquisitive nature and a personal drive to make positive change, is what landed her the role of wholesale and development at Origin.
Mary’s workday spans the scope of what we do at Origin, from keeping an eye on medium to long term fuel supply trends and opportunities, to investment in renewables, sales acquisition and keeping the customer needs front of mind, she’s constantly working out how we can build a better energy future. Mary knows that her role at Origin can influence positive change for her community.
Mary attributes her longevity and passion for her role to her ability to implement real, tangible changes in the workplace. It only seems fitting that she would be drawn to a volunteering program that brings together future energy technology and people wanting to help others.
When her own area of Narooma was impacted by bushfires, Mary called on her previous experience with the Origin Energy Foundation and the SolarBuddy program that builds solar-powered lights for Pacific communities living in energy poverty. Mary reached out to the Origin Energy Foundation who put her in touch with SolarBuddy’s local contact and together they came up with a plan to mobilise Origin employees to build lights to help local bushfire impacted communities.
Mary said “I live in this community, I know these people, and at times I was one of the many to seek safety and support in one of the evacuation centres. Seeing all this occur around me, I knew I wanted to help and ease the pressure of the many trying to navigate being without power.”
It’s with people like Mary that the Origin Energy Foundation can continue to support these programs and give back to our community. The Origin Energy Foundation has helped Origin employees volunteer 6,000 hours to the community this financial year (FY20′). Mary said, “the opportunity to volunteer and donate my time to ease the pressure in some small way is something I am proud to be a part of.”
