Gareth Jacobs, delivering good energy

This year, we shared the stories of some of our most passionate people in our Sustainability Report and Shareholder Review, and asked what 'good energy' meant to them.
Apprentice electrician Naomi Bourke is finishing 2018 on a high after being a named National Apprentice of the Year by Master Electricians Australia.
The fourth year apprentice who is busting down gender barriers works with Origin’s solar business in Queensland, Horan & Bird, where she has impressed with her skills leading to her nomination for the prize.
Moving into the traditionally male-dominated industry, Naomi says she was attracted to the job by the chance to use her hands and the opportunities to create a greener future working on solar installations.
“My journey so far as an electrical apprentice has been both rewarding and challenging,” said Naomi.
“To begin with it could be quite daunting as a female trying to fit into a male dominated workplace, especially having little experience with tools. Fortunately for me, I work in an environment where everyone is accepting, understanding and willing to assist me where necessary.”
Judges said her passion, focus on safety, belief that no challenge was too big and desire to learn from her peers set her apart.
