Fridges are the new ovens.
Move over ovens – you’re not the only appliance that can make a cake! While we’re not knocking traditional oven-baked desserts, we’re definitely intrigued by the recent explosion of no-bake dessert recipes. These recipes are ‘baked’ by setting in your fridge or freezer for a few hours. Not only does a no-bake cake use less energy, there’s a 100% lower chance of you burning it.
There are tons of no-bake brownie/slice/cake recipes to try online. With no hot cake tins to burn little fingers on, these desserts are also perfect for kids to help with. Here’s one to try.
No-fuss no-bake super-dooper easy slice
Base
1.5 cups crushed Marie biscuits
¼ cup sugar
6 tbsp melted butter
Filling
500g cream cheese, softened
1 can condensed milk
1 tbsp lemon juice
Topping
Mixed berry jam
Sliced strawberries
Method
In a medium bowl, stir together base ingredients until moistened, then press into a standard pie plate, making sure the sides are covered too. Refrigerate for 30 mins.
Add softened cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice and lemon juice to a large mixing bowl, and beat on high until smooth and creamy (about 4 minutes). Transfer mixture evenly into the biscuit base and refrigerate for 4 hours. Once set, slather the top with your favourite berry jam, then arrange some sliced fresh strawberries for decoration.
While you might miss the smell of freshly baked cake wafting through the house, you sure won’t miss cleaning the oven as often.
Bon appetit!
