Stay comfortably cosy.
When it comes to keeping warm over winter, it’s all too easy to burn a hole in your pocket (in the financial sense – also in the ‘leaving your pants on the heater too long’ sense). Here are some tips and tricks to help you save energy, while still staying warm:
- Keep your thermostat between 18°C and 20°C – every degree you reduce heat can save up to 10% on your energy use.
- Keep showers short – hot water usage accounts for around 21% of your energy bill, so having shorter showers can result in big savings in the long run.
- Close your curtains – shutting curtains or blinds is an easy way to stop heat escaping. Windows can let more than 40% of your winter warmth leak out of your home.
And if that’s still not enough, chuck on a beanie, sit down with a cup of tea and think about all the money you’re saving – that’s sure to warm the heart.
