World Bee Day

Get busy on world bee day.

Did you know that 75% of the world’s food crops rely on pollination from bees? Yep. The term ‘busy bees’ is actually grounded in truth.  Without bees, we would lose a huge amount of the nutritious food we eat today, including fruits, nuts and many vegetables. Unfortunately, these hard workers have taken a bit of a hit – due to human impact, species extinction rates are currently 100 to 1,000 times higher than normal.

And seeing as bees can’t form unions, it’s up to us humans to step in and help them out.

That’s why May 20 has been made the official World Bee Day – A day about spreading awareness of the importance of bees and taking action to help keep them around. Here are 3 things you can do to help out on World Bee Day:

  • Buy raw honey from local farmers
  • Plant a diverse set of native plants, which flower at different times of the year
  • Do some DIY – make a homemade bee water fountain, all you need is to leave a water bowl outside, decorate it however you want.

Even if you just choose one or two things, it all helps. Take a picture of how you’re helping out on World Bee Day and share it on social media to help spread awareness of how much we need bees.
