Origin warns customers of energy discount phone scam
Origin Energy is warning customers of a phone scam, with callers claiming to offer false energy discounts and seeking customers' personal details.
The caller claims to represent Origin or another energy retailer, often states the customer's current retailer has recently been purchased by another retailer, and offers false discounts of between 30 to 40 per cent off energy bills.
Although Origin and its suppliers do make outbound calls, callers offering between 30 to 40 per cent discounts are not calling on behalf of Origin.
Customers can always verify that they are being offered a genuine discount by calling us directly on 13 24 63.
If you believe you have been contacted by a hoax caller, you can report this activity by calling us on 13 24 61, the ACCC Infocentre on 1300 302 502, or your state or territory fair trading authority.
