Contact Energy Limited (Contact) today confirmed the conclusion of the sale process for the site of the former New Plymouth power station for a total of $24m.

Port Taranaki today takes ownership of the majority of the site, which is adjacent to their current operations, for $15.5m. This follows completion last week of the sale of a smaller portion of the site to Methanex New Zealand for $8.5m.

Dennis Barnes, Contact’s Chief Executive said that “Contact is delighted that the site has been sold to two Taranaki-based businesses that will use it to further grow and develop their operations, benefiting the local economy. We are proud of our long-standing involvement in the Taranaki region which continues through our operation of the Stratford Power Station and Ahuroa Gas Storage facility.”
