Our Reconciliation Journey

We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the oldest surviving cultures in the world and we’re committed to creating a culture of respect and inclusion across all parts of our organisation.  At its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians. Origin’s engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples has predominantly occurred through our development of energy resources, the Origin Energy Foundation, our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) launched in 2015 and our Stretch RAP 2019-2022.

As a leading energy company, we have engaged with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples over many years. Through our Stretch RAP, we are showing our commitment to participating in Australia’s reconciliation efforts and shifting from awareness to action through targeted activity across learning, spending and employment.

We’ve been working towards building employee cultural awareness, celebrating National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Month, building diversity and inclusion through employment practices, creating equality through procurement, and piloting initiatives to enhance Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation.

Our plan

Building on the progress we’ve made, our 2019 – 2020 Reconciliation Action Plan maps out our aspirations along four interconnected paths, both internal and external:

We provide opportunities for our people to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, histories and achievements so that we create a culturally safe and inclusive workplace.

Education, jobs and the purchasing of goods and services from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses create opportunities to transform lives and create a sense of inclusion for all. Through our Stretch RAP, we aim to increase the participation and representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in our business.

Radiating Country

We’re proud to announce our latest commission, ‘Radiating Country’ by Riki Salam to follow the wonderful ‘Illuminating Country’ artwork, which was created especially for us. It’s the next iteration of the Origin energy story, and one we’re enormously proud of.

This new artwork has been created around the idea of a journey – not just as a business that’s continually evolving, but literally travelling the length and breadth of our beautiful country to share ‘Good energy’ across the nation.

Reconciliation Australia

We’re proud to continue our work with Reconciliation Australia in the development and delivery of our second, Stretch RAP.


We are working with CareerTrackers to employ talented Indigenous university students in engineering, finance, environmental sciences and other vocations.

Our Reconciliation Advisory Committee

Our Reconciliation Advisory Committee was convened in July 2014 to guide the development and implementation of Origin’s RAP.
