About the program

We love to talk about energy so we think it’s important to help people become energy aware. With our knowledge and years of experience, it makes sense that we take the lead to educate our kids on energy.

Our schools program really kicked off in 2003 when we provided free energy resources to primary and secondary school teachers in VIC, SA, QLD and NSW. By 2009, we had reached 22,000 teachers in 13,000 schools and over half a million students.

We relaunched our education program in 2011 with “Energy savers”, an interactive website for primary school teachers and students, and sent our mascot, Energy Bob and presenter Bernard to visit primary schools Australia-wide. In 2013, our teams visited 38 schools, educating around 4000 students on energy.

Since then, we’ve updated the program content and we’re really proud that we’re the only energy company that offers a free energy education resource that aligns with the national curriculum. You’ll see that we’ve developed information for the three levels: grades three and four, grades five and six, and years seven and eight.

In May 2014 we launched littleBIGidea, a national schools competition that aims to foster creativity and innovation in students from grade 3-8.

The Top 12 ideas were selected based on an exceptional demonstration of originality, creativity, practicality, imagination and innovation. Judges included James O’Loghlin, former host of the ABC’s ‘The New Inventors’; Christie Burnett, Editor of popular parenting blog Childhood101.com; and Bernard Caleo, presenter of Origin ‘Energy for Schools’ shows.
