Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have to be a current degree level student or can you be completing a lower level course?
Yes you need to be a degree level student to be eligible to apply.
Can recent graduates apply?
No, the Summer Vacation Program is designed for students in their final or penultimate year. If you have recently graduated we would however encourage you to apply for our 2013 graduate program which will be advertised on our website early in 2012.
Can international students apply?
Yes, if you are eligible to work in Australia. If you are not eligible to take on a full time position for 12 weeks in Australia, you are not eligible to apply.
Our understanding is student visa holders can work up to 20 hours a week while their course is in session (excluding any work undertaken as a registered component of their course of study or training) and they can work unlimited hours during scheduled course breaks. We will however need to check your eligibility so we will require a copy of your passport biodata page with you application.
If I am an international student and prepared to work on a volunteer basis (ie not get paid) can I apply?
No, legally we are not able to employ you or have you work in our business unless you are eligible to work in Australia.
What will be involved in the program?
You will be assigned a project to complete during the vacation program. This may involve working in the Origin office as well as visiting some of our project sites. At the end of the program you will be asked to present an overview of your experience and the project outcomes.

How much will I be paid?
You will be paid a weekly salary which will be equivalent to a percentage of our graduate salaries; the percentage amount will depend on which year you are in of your degree (less tax).
How long is the program?
The program is 12 weeks but you will be entitled to 1 week of annual leave so the program will run from Monday 28 November 2011 and be until 24 February (unless you decide not to take your week of annual leave over Christmas and then you could finish on 17 February).
Will I be able to take time off over Christmas?
You will be entitled to all the standard public holidays over Christmas and New Year. You will also be eligible for up to 5 days annual leave over the program period which and you can chose to take that time off any time (in consultation with your supervisor) during that 12 weeks or at the end so you finish a week earlier.
