2011 Toyota AFL Finals Series
100% GreenPowered by Origin
Last year, we powered both 2010 Toyota AFL Grand Finals at the MCG with 100% GreenPower, plus offset all remaining Finals matches with 25% GreenPower.
And in 2011, we're stepping it up.
This year, Origin will power the entire 2011 Toyota AFL Finals Series with 100% GreenPower – which includes Grand Final day at the MCG.
Based on 2010 consumption figures, this should help offset more than 790 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions – which is like over 1,000 average Aussie homes not using any power for a whole month!
Hawthorn Captain Luke Hodge is also giving 100% this year, and is a proud Origin GreenPower customer.
"Before now the average punter wouldn't realise the impact one AFL game has on the planet – much like me. But using 100% GreenPower means all the power that is estimated to be used for each game is match into the grid with electricity from renewable sources – which is good news for the game, and the environment."

Our environmental savings calculations are based on: (a) the purchase of 594MWh of GreenPower, which – based on available 2010 Toyota AFL Finals Series consumption data - we estimate to be the minimum quantity of GreenPower that we'll purchase for the 2011 Toyota AFL Finals Series, including the Grand Final; (b) an emissions factor of 1.34 kgCO2e = 1 kW("National Greenhouse Accounts(NGA) Factors", Department of Climate Change, June 2009); and (c) average Australian household consuming 6,840kWh per annum ("Energy Use in the Australian Residential Sector", Department of Climate Change, 2008).
