Conditions of supply for electricity tariffs

Origin offers a range of energy tariffs to suit your business needs. The following information outlines the main features of the electricity and natural gas tariffs.

Low voltage electricity supply

Applicable to 480/415/240 volt supply

As our customer you can choose any tariff in the Commercial and Industrial Tariff range that is appropriate to your requirements. You may also change your tariff choice after 12 months at no cost to you, upon application in writing.

Conditions and definitions of low voltage electricity supply:

  • Billing - tariffs are generally determined on a monthly basis. Where other billing periods are used, a pro-rata calculation is applied.
  • Service fee - This fee provides a more cost-reflective charge as it includes fixed costs passed through to Origin in network fees from Energex and the fixed costs associated with general retail administration (such as collecting the information on your usage, preparing and sending bills, purchasing your energy)
  • Supply voltage - Normally your network service provider, ENERGEX, will supply you with 415/240 volts. However, for specific engineering or economic reasons the network service provider (ENERGEX) may agree to provide you with a standard high voltage supply.
  • Minimum payments - These are applied to cover the cost of maintaining supply when there is little or no consumption. The minimum payment for each tariff is described in the tariff tables. Minimum payments apply to certain tariffs in lieu of Service fees. No tariff has both a minimum payment and a Service fee.

Ask for our brochure regarding high voltage supply condition available from the Business Service Centre on:

  • Demand tariff - are generally suitable for large customers with a minimum usage of around 16 000 kWh per month and a Load factor of more than 30%. Usually a load test and a 12 month energy usage pattern is required to determine whether a Demand tariff is appropriate for your operation. If you choose one of the demand tariffs, then the whole installation has to be supplied on this tariff.
  • Demand charge - This is based on the highest average rate of usage over any 30 minute period during the month. The demand indicator is reset to zero at each monthly meter reading.
  • Load factor - This is a ratio of the average level of usage for any period of time to your highest level of usage in any 30 minutes (Maximum Demand or MD) during that period, i.e.

Load factor = kWh used in period x 100 = X%
MD(kW) x hours in period
