Cullerin Range Wind Farm

The Cullerin Wind Farm site project has an extremely good wind resource and is one of the most competitive projects of its kind in Australia with a capacity factor of 44 percent and close proximity to electricity transmission infrastructure.

Cullerin is approximately 700 metres above sea level and consists of 15 2MW RE power turbines on prefabricated tubular steel towers standing 80 metres high. Preliminary construction work began in late January 2008, and was fully commissioned by early July 2009.

During the construction phase, the turbine equipment and blades were shipped from Europe to Pt Kemba in NSW, late in 2008. These items were transported to site via front and rear-steered low loaders for easy manoeuvrability to site. As each blade is up to 45 metres in length and weigh approximately 8 tonnes each, the blades were transported in single loads.

The 15 three-segment towers which were manufactured in Portland Victoria by Keppel Prince were transported in stages for the 1000 km journey via road between late February and mid-May, 2009.

The first turbine was erected between 5-8 March 2009, and the last turbine was erected on 18 May 2009.

The wind farm underwent commissioning from late May to early July 2009.

The transmission connection ties into the Goulburn/Yass 132Kv line owned by Country Energy. Now fully operational, Cullerin Range will save about 100,000 tonnes of carbon annually or provide enough renewable electricity to power almost 15,000 typical homes in NSW. more...
