The sun is a good source of clean and abundant energy. Solar panels are able to collect and use this energy to produce electricity. Origin is the Australian market leader in the installation of grid-connected solar photovoltaic panels for both residential and commercial customers.

In addition, Origin is investing in the research and development of solar photovoltaic technology through Transform Solar, our joint venture with Micron Technology Inc.

Transform Solar

Origin continues to take important steps forward with the development of solar photovoltaic technology. In 2010, we established a 50:50 joint venture with Micron Technology Inc of the United States, called Transform Solar , to examine opportunities for commercialisation of solar photovoltaic technology.

The joint venture is combining the work Origin has already undertaken in the development of SLIVER technology with Micron’s capabilities in semiconductors.

About SLIVER technology

The award-winning SLIVER technology was invented and developed at the Australian National University’s Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems with financial support from Origin.

SLIVER technology aims to increase the availability of solar power by dramatically reducing the amount of silicon required in solar panels.

Origin is involved in the ongoing development of SLIVER through its Transform Solar joint venture with Micron Technology Inc.
