Origin supports NAIDOC week

We support our indigenous communities to celebrate their culture

    NAIDOC week

NAIDOC week is a national celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. Origin supports local NAIDOC week events held in places such as Roma, Mitchell & Rockhampton through the provision of sample bags, merchandise and promotional material. In 2009 we also supported an aboriginal dance program and BBQ held in Brisbane.

In 2010 Origin provided the Ultimate Bush Tucker Tasting event with a BBQ lunch of delicious chipolatas: kangaroo, crocodile, possum and lemon myrtle, exciting satays: kangaroo and emu, plus native sauces and salad dressings.

Morning tea platters were provided with samples of real bush tucker including native jams, wattleseed cream, rainforest fruit cordial, wattleseed damper, bush tomato dip, bunya nut pesto, chickpea and pepperberry swirl hummus, wallaby salami, emu kabana, native cheese and bush spiced macadamia nuts.

Storytelling, didgeridoo performance & traditional Aboriginal art demonstration was provided by Dreamtime Kullilla-Art.

A competition was also held where staff was asked to send in a photo, poem, lyrics or paragraph on our theme "Reconciliation: we are one. Congratulations to our winning entry by Ron Friedrichsen: "Being at "one" is consideration of one's history, culture and standing while looking past ones history, culture and standing"....

    Cultural support

In the past we have assisted indigenous communities with repatriation of cultural material from the Queensland Museum collection back to traditional country. In some cases we have also provided assistance with funeral costs to significant elders who have had long standing relationships with the company.
