Hydro
Hydro electricity is one of the world’s most widely used forms of renewable energy and has the ability to deliver an efficient, reliable and flexible supply of electricity.
Origin currently invests in two international hydro initiatives – the Purari Hydro Project in Papua New Guinea and Energía Austral in Chile.
In September 2010, Origin announced that the governments of Papua New Guinea and Queensland had signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with Papua New Guinea Energy Developments Ltd (PNG EDL) and Origin to support the potential development of the Purari Hydro Project.
In April 2012, Origin announced it had acquired a 51 per cent interest in Chile’s leading hydroelectric development company, Energía Austral. Established in 1995, Energía Austral is currently developing the nation’s second largest hydro project in the Aysén Region of southern Chile.
