Health and wellbeing
We provide support to help our indigenous communities access health services
- Blood sugar monitors: We recently purchased 20 blood sugar monitoring units. The units were given to the Roma Aboriginal Health Organisation to distribute to community members who had limited ability to otherwise access the units. The units allow diabetic people to closely monitor and control their blood sugar levels.
- WE AL-LI training program: The WE-AL-LI training program is a new initiative by the Roma District Health Service that helps to train indigenous people to become indigenous health workers. The program will provide training packages that promote spiritual, cultural, physical, emotional and mental wellbeing for all individuals, families and social groups. Origin has committed funding to the initial program.
- Community bus: We have provided funding to help an indigenous community in remote Queensland to purchase a small mini bus to transport people who live in outlying areas to medical appointments.
- Black on Track: We recently supported two 17 week Black on Track programs. Black on Track provides opportunities for indigenous men in the St George and Dalby areas to undertake a healing/counselling program. The program built the participants' self esteem and helped them develop skills in writing resumes and applying for jobs.
