Energy efficiency & safety: a team effort
Waikerie Primary School, Waikerie SA - Youth environment team
Our school’s ‘Youth environment team’ is on a mission to teach others about energy efficiency and safety.
To learn about energy efficiency and safety, we:
- taught the younger students how to cook and use appliances safely in the kitchen
- discussed how to be safe around gas and electricity
- tested the amount of energy used by appliances and worked out how much energy could be saved.
We’re encouraging others to use energy wisely, by:
- creating posters and cartoons showing how we can save energy in our everyday lives and displaying them in classrooms
- displaying our energy safety artwork of Origin’s energy safety mascot, Switch the dog, at the local hardware store
- putting ‘Switch off’ messages on light switches to remind others to turn off unnecessary lights
- helping kindergarten children learn about what energy is, how it’s used and how they can use it wisely.
