Energy at Minaret College

Minaret College, Springvale VIC – Prep to Year 7 & Year 11

Learning about energy wise behaviour has been a whole school effort. Our junior students learnt about keeping safe around household energy, while our senior students discovered important energy efficiency messages.

To learn about energy safety and efficiency, we:

• had all primary year levels participate in Origin’s Energy Safety Week 2009
• visited the school’s kitchen to identify potentially dangerous hazards and appliances
• had class discussions on how we could use energy more efficiently in our homes and at school.

We’re encouraging others to use energy wisely, by:

• creating colourful energy safety posters to display in our classrooms
• writing and singing our own energy song, ‘Safety in the kitchen’ which we performed to others
• designing and building energy efficient house models to present to other classes, explaining our design ideas and household energy saving tips
• displaying our energy safety artwork at the Springvale and Dandenong public libraries.
