Switched on fun and electric learning

Harvest Christian School, Kadina SA – Year 4

Our goal was to have fun while we learnt and taught others about the important message of energy safety this year. We love drama, so we decided to make our own plays about energy safety in the kitchen.

To learn about energy safety, we:

• experimented  with circuits and switches, watched a video and used Origin’s free education materials
• talked to older students and got feedback from them to gather energy safety tips and advice
• visited different kitchens to see how gas and electricity is used
• built a giant model kitchen in our classroom and used it to demonstrate safe behaviour around gas and electrical appliances
• designed our own props and sets including safe switches, a kitchen sink and appliances.

We’re encouraging others to use energy safely, by:

• designing and performing skits that demonstrate safe behaviour around gas and electricity.
