Striving to make a difference
Coomandook Area School, Coomandook SA – Year 9
We’re making a real difference to the environment by reducing the amount of energy we use around our school and at home.
To learn about energy efficiency, we:
- investigated our home energy use and determined strategies for reducing our consumption
- researched the energy consumption of various electrical tools and appliances
- performed a school audit to determine which areas of the school are using the most energy
- shared ideas on how to save energy at school or home and how we can minimise our carbon footprint.
We’re encouraging others to use energy efficiently, by:
- presenting our audit results to other classes in the school
- writing daily reminders in morning notices to switch off unused appliances
- leading by example and switching off all appliances when leaving classrooms
- making a roster to check classrooms at the end of each day
- creating switch off checklists and posters for all classrooms.
