Carbon Reduction Scheme™ Offsets

Here’s a snapshot of some of the current projects that the Carbon Reduction Scheme™ offsets have come from:

Waste composting

General household waste, recyclable materials, bulk waste and green waste is collected from residents in various local councils and, using an advanced waste collection system, is converted to compost.

This means our environment benefits through:

  • Significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions
  • Improvement in local soils
  • Decreased water consumption and artificial fertiliser usage, and
  • Solid landfill is greatly reduced.

Certification

  • Australian Government’s Department of Climate Change Greenhouse Friendly certification.

Traditional flaring

Traditional landfill gas flaring projects help to reduce greenhouse gases by capturing and destroying methane.

The application of advanced flaring technology, and the burning of waste gas, means that harmful methane (which is 21-23 times more damaging to the atmosphere than CO2 emissions) is destroyed and doesn't escape into the atmosphere.

Certification

  • Government’s Greenhouse Friendly certification.

Energy efficient programs

In 2005, we embarked on a challenge to give away one million energy efficient light globes to residents in NSW. By installing these globes, we’re reducing both greenhouse gas emissions and electricity bills.

We have also given away water saving showerheads to the program and expanded the give away to residents in South Australia and Victoria. So far we’ve given away over 1.6 million light globes and 133,000 showerheads.
