Understanding Carbon
What is carbon offsetting?
Carbon offsetting is a way for individuals or businesses to compensate for their own greenhouse gas emissions.
This process enables you to estimate your personal or business related greenhouse gas emissions for activities such as energy consumption, air travel or car fuel consumption and then act to ‘offset’ those emissions by contributing to programs that actively reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
A carbon offset represents the reduction of one metric tonne of greenhouse gas emissions, which are believed to be the principal cause of climate change according to the world’s leading scientists on the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change).
Why offset with Origin?
Our Carbon Reduction Scheme™ is a credible carbon offset solution which offers a portfolio of verified projects that reduce or prevent greenhouse gas emissions. The scheme is independently audited, so you can be confident that for every tonne of carbon purchased, one tonne of greenhouse gas emissions is reduced from our carbon projects.
The benefits
By being carbon conscious and offsetting your greenhouse gas emissions, you’re taking responsibility for your environmental impact and contributing to a more sustainable future.
Businesses can also leverage a point of difference created by behaving in an environmentally responsible manner. In fact, 42% of businesses we surveyed said they chose suppliers based on their green credentials.* Could this make a difference to your bottom line?
