How do I calculate the greenhouse gas emissions I want to offset for a gift certificate?
You can either:
- Use the Go Green CalculatorTM to estimate the greenhouse gas emissions from your gift recipient’s energy consumption, air and car travel or;
- Specify the amount of tonnes you wish to offset by selecting the purchase by the tonne option. You may consider purchasing carbon offsets that are equivalent to the estimated average Australian's annual emissions).*
* The average Australian generates over 14 tonnes of greenhouse gases each year (Australian Government, Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (December 2008)

Can I purchase a carbon offset gift for someone who lives outside Australia?
Yes, you can buy a gift certificate for friends and family outside Australia. If you want to calculate their emissions, please bear in mind that although greenhouse emission factors for air travel calculations are applicable overseas, the figures used to calculate car fuel, gas and electricity consumption are Australian specific greenhouse gas emission factors, and as such should only be used as a guide.
