Storm safety
Be prepared
Origin employs more than 700 people who live and work in Queensland, so we share a concern for the safety and welfare of our neighbours in storm-prone areas. Here are a few tips on staying safe around electricity and gas during the storm season.
Electrical safety
It’s a good idea to turn off and unplug electrical appliances if power is lost during a storm. Don’t use or attempt to repair electrical appliances that may have been damaged by rain or flooding - make sure they are checked by an electrician first.
Gas safety
If you have cylinders supplying gas to your home, prepare for storms by making sure the chains around the cylinders are fixed firmly. You should also secure portable cylinders outdoors in an upright position away from strong winds and potential flood waters.
If there is an interruption to your gas supply as a result of a storm, turn off any gas appliances to prevent an unchecked
flow of gas through appliances when the gas supply is restored.
LPG deliveries
In the event of road closures and restricted access to properties, we will coordinate with State and Local Emergency Services to prioritise support where it is most needed. In these circumstances, we would normally expect some delays in making gas deliveries. Safety is our priority and we uphold our strict safety standards whatever the situation.
Community support
Through our relationships with our community partners, we are able to provide support to both victims and volunteers. We also match employee donations to disaster relief appeals, dollar for dollar.
Power On program
In the aftermath of natural disasters, we understand that some of our customers may face financial hardship. Our Power On program assists customers through difficult times with a range of long-term or short-term payment solutions.
