Here's how a solar electricity system works:
- The energy from the sun is captured through solar panels, or photovoltaic (PV) cells on your roof
- Installation is by a BCSE grid-connect accredited installer (essential to claim your Australian Government rebate)
- Your system is connected to the electricity grid
- When you need more energy than your solar electricity system produces, your system automatically imports it from the grid
- When your solar electricity system produces more energy than you need, it exports the extra to the grid
- From now on, your bills are calculated as the difference between the amount of electricity you import and the amount you export to the grid - you only pay for energy you use, over and above what your solar electricity system produces
- You can save on energy bills, and reduce your greenhouse gas emissions.
