National Solar Schools Program
The Australian Government is offering your school up to $50,000 to help fight climate change, with the National Solar Schools Program .
The National Solar Schools Program offers grants of up to $50,000 (GST exclusive) to install solar power systems, rainwater tanks and a range of renewable energy and efficiency measures. Schools can improve their energy and water efficiency as well as reduce their ongoing energy costs.
More than half of Australian schools have now registered to participate in the National Solar Schools Program.
The Department has now received enough claims to absorb all of the program’s available funding in 2009-10. As a result, the program is now being temporarily suspended to new claims until next year.
The program will be open to new claims in May 2010.
National Solar Schools Program - Queensland Update
The State Government has committed to have all Queensland State Schools using solar power within three years. Origin, together with our installation partner, PSG, has been chosen as one of the three successful tenderers to implement the program. We’ve already installed solar at 74 schools and we will be installing over five school systems per week for the remainder of the year. Origin is proud to be spending the next two years helping Queensland schools generate more than clever minds.

Providing sustainability solutions to schools, we have worked closely with a number of schools in installing solar electricity systems, including:
- Drouin Secondary College, with the installation of a fully operational 5,000 watt grid-connected solar system, which will generate approximately 7,300 kWh of electricity per annum.
- Melbourne Girls College, with the installation of a fully operational 2,040 watt grid-connected solar system, which will generate approximately 2,800 kWh of electricity per annum.
- St Thomas The Apostle Primary School (April 2009), with the installation of a fully operational 5,000 watt grid-connected solar system, generating approximately 7,300 kWh of electricity per annum
- Warragul District Special School (August 2009), with the installation of a fully operational 5,000 watt grid-connected solar system, generating approximately 7,300 kWh of electricity per annum.
