Our greenhouse gas inventory
For Origin, greenhouse gas related issues continue to be the most significant environmental challenge and we continue to develop proactive initiatives to address this challenge.
For the fourth consecutive year we have obtained third party assurance in relation to our greenhouse gas inventory. For the 2006/07 reporting year our assurance activities focused on our Exploration and Production and Generation businesses.
For our operations during 2006/07, the intensity level of our greenhouse emissions from our Exploration and Production business was 11.4 kilotonnes per petajoule equivalent, two per cent higher than for the previous reporting period. Greenhouse gas intensity from our Generation business was 192.6 kilotonnes per petajoule equivalent, four per cent lower than the previous year. For facilities in which we have equity, the greenhouse gas intensity level of Exploration and Production decreased by four per cent to 12.5 kilotonnes per petajoule equivalent. For Generation, greenhouse gas intensity decreased by 15 per cent to 71.4 kilotonnes per petajoule equivalent.
We also measure total emissions across our supply chain. Most emissions in our supply chain are from the energy we sell to our customers. During 2006/07, emissions intensity increased 16 per cent to 138.6 kilotonnes of carbon dioxide per petajoule equivalent. Total emissions across our supply chain increased 25 per cent to 40.1 megatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.
We have developed many initiatives to assist customers in reducing their emissions.
