Sun Retail - an insight

Sun Retail consists of three major components:

1. The electricity retail business consists of around 833,000 mass market and small business customers, predominantly located in south east Queensland.

This business complements Origin’s existing 90,000 gas customers north of the Brisbane River and adds scale to the company’s mass market energy retailing business.

2. The electricity wholesale and trading business includes around 7,500 large commercial and industrial sites, a portfolio of electricity trading positions and a permit to build a 450 MW power station near Braemar.

This business complements the integrated wholesale position which Origin has developed in Queensland including the Roma and Mt Stuart peaking power stations, the proposed Spring Gully base-load power station, and Origin’s gas production assets.

3. The LPG business markets and distributes LPG to around 55,000 industrial, commercial and residential customers spread mainly through south east Queensland and northern New South Wales. The acquisition of this business adds to Origin’s existing 123,000 LPG customers in Queensland, and will enable significant synergies and cost savings to be brought to this business.
