Renewable Generation

Origin is investing in renewable technologies that produce power with low or no greenhouse gas emissions including:

  • A pilot plant in South Australia to demonstrate Origin’s SLIVER cell technology. The world-class technology aims to increase the availability of solar power by dramatically reducing the amount of silicon required in solar panels.
  • An 8% interest and a 30% stake in a joint venture with Geodynamics Limited through a commitment of over $100m to develop its hot rock geothermal resource in South Australia’s Cooper Basin. Geodynamics is aiming to harvest the searing heat from about 4.5 km below the earth’s surface to generate clean electricity. more...
  • Cullerin Range wind farm, 30km west of Goulburn in NSW. This 30MW wind farm is already will playing an important role in increasing renewable energy supplies in NSW.
  • The Yass Valley Wind Farm project in NSW. Origin has acquired this large wind development site with attractive characteristics including scale, wind resource and proximity to connection.
  • The Stockyard Hill Wind Farm  project, 35 km west of Ballarat in Victoria. The proposed wind farm consists of 242 turbines and has the potential to provide enough renewable energy for the equivalent of around 270,000 average homes (based on a long term average forecast). It is expected to deliver significant economic benefits and jobs into regional Victoria.

Origin sells Green Power to more customers in Australia than any other retailer. Green Power is generated from solar, wind and hydro sources, resulting in zero greenhouse gas emissions during power generation.
