Origin's activities impact the environment in various ways
We regard our most significant environmental impact as the emission of greenhouse gases. The gas-fired power stations that make up our generation business create greenhouse gas emissions.
Emissions come from our production activities and our retail business sells electricity that comes from various generation sources which also creates greenhouse gas emissions. Our position on climate change and our involvement in The Australian Business Roundtable on Climate Change outlines our policy initiatives in this area.
Most of our greenhouse gas emissions are from the energy we purchase and sell to customers. To assist our customers in reducing these emissions we provide clean energy choices.
Our exploration and oil and gas production activities can mean disturbances to land, noise, waste and impact on resources such as water. We take all reasonable steps to eliminate or minimise any adverse impact that our activities have on the local environment. As part of Origin’s environmental management practices we work to reduce our environmental impacts by minimising the use of natural resources, reducing or preventing pollution, managing waste effectively and restoring the land used in our activities.
