Origin Energy is Australia's largest producer of coal seam gas. We have interests in the following areas:

Peat

The Peat Field is located near the township of Wandoan in central Queensland.

Since acquiring the field in 1997, Origin has improved the economics of the Peat Project by:&

  • modifying well design to ensure reliable production;&
  • assessing appropriate technology to provide cost reductions; and&
  • appraising the field's reserves and deliverability to enable confidence to underwrite a gas contract and therefore move development forward.

This was achieved through a comprehensive drilling and testing program which culminated in the signing of Australia's first major long term gas sale agreement for the supply of CSG to the BP Bulwer Island Clean Fuels Project in Brisbane. The Peat Project produces 4 PJ of CSG per annum.

Spring Gully & Fairview

Located north of Roma, the Spring Gully and Fairview Projects represent a world-class accumulation of CSG which Origin believes could ultimately yield reserves of over 4000PJ. Origin acquired its interests in these projects in 2002

Origin plans an aggressive development program for the Spring Gully and Fairview Projects over the next few years in order to capture the growth potential in the Queensland market. These projects will be the cornerstone of Origin's rapid CSG expansion including gas supply to new markets in eastern Australia.

Commissioned in June 2005, the Spring Gully Project will contribute to a contract signed with AGL for the supply of 340 PJ of gas over 15 years.

Walloon Coals

The Walloon Coals, located near the south east Queensland towns of Miles and Chinchilla are ideally located close to the Roma to Brisbane pipeline.

The area is believed to contain a resource of up to 15,000 PJ, which is an exciting opportunity for Origin and Queensland's energy supply.

Origin operates a large part of the Walloon Fairway and is in a strong position to commercialise this resource quickly over the next few years.
